King of the sink

Here he is, Sherman at ten months. He has a gigantic ruff. And he can sit by that tap for hours, waiting for a drop to fall, so it's just as well we just had a new kitchen put in and bought the biggest sink we could get. He is also very busy being a wild cat impostor... my photo agency solicited the first potrait I took of him further down this blog, and mistakenly keyworded it with 'bobcat'. So now a search for 'bobcat' on Getty Images brings up a page of lynxes in the wild/with their prey/in the snow/in the desert and lo! - a much smaller cat, not particularly ferocious, on a green staircase. I wonder how long before somebody notices :-)

Spring update

Now that the weather is warmer, Sherman is being allowed out with us in the garden. He is quite predictably obsessed by the pond where the new tadpoles are hatching - they stand even less of a chance than previous years, as my next door neighbour also has two new kittens (one of which Sherman is rather besotted with). He spends most of his indoor days sunnying himself on the stairs and continues to be a wonderful pet, apart from his annoying habit of waking up at 6.20 each morning and putting all his efforts into making sure I also get up and stay up. Hrmmmph.

Big Ears

Sherman is now five months old and beginning to look more cattish than kitten. He has the most amazing ears and a long, long bushy tail (which is a show Pixie Bob no-no, but we love it to bits - the tip is so dark it looks dipped in ink).
He has developed an obsession with water, and is forever sitting in various sinks and interfering with the washing up. He has managed to fall into the bath twice so far but even that has failed to put him off.
Today, for the first time, we took him out in the garden on a lead but he looked overwhelmed at first and then just totally p***ed off as he cowered in a corner shivering, so back inside he went. He's been scowling at us since. We'll have another go in spring and hope he'll have more fun then...

On the first day of Christmas...

...I never thought I'd see, a kitten in the fake tree. Or the day after, and the day after that. We should have thought about it, really, but we didn't... Still, Sherman is finally beginning to understand the meaning of 'NO!' - in time for the tree to come down. He's otherwise the cuddliest cat you could wish for, so it's very easy to forgive him.

Sherman at three months

The kitten previously known as Dermot moves up the road

On November 23rd, Dermot moved to Crouch End to live with Christina, Paul and Guy. He was renamed Sherman as a nod to his American ancestry, and because he will no doubt grow into a tall, commanding, fearless, all-conquering cat. At the moment he's too busy chasing pens and his own tail to be commanding and fearless, but give him time.

Out like a light - check the smile on his face

Having now got Mika as his best mate, Dermot gets totally worn out, and needs his regular kipp to keep up with the bigger kittens.
